The mis-adventures of a knitting dumbass

Blogger Drive-By

Sorry for the absence. Life has been turned upside down lately. The in-laws are in town and are making us nuts. Why do old folks (70+ years old) insist they still have the abilities of a 20 year old?

Why do they try and go up and down the stairs with 20+ lbs worth of stuff in their hands and almost tumble, but insist that they're fine?

Why do they drive for 12 hours straight from New Mexico to California without a break?

Why do they not go to the doctor like they should?

Why do they turn the tv and the radio up to top volume (at the same time) then have to yell over it in order to speak to you rather than turning it down and speaking normally?

Why do they make their adult children absolutely nuts!?

Why do they not move back home where their family is who can take care of them and love them?

P.S. I'm on a knitting break right now, since my last post my feelings haven't improved. I think though I feel a little spark of creativity coming after reading the Yarn Harlot's blog and getting a little inspired. Lets see what happens!

Not doing so well...

Hey all! I hope you had a great Christmas and Happy New Year. Mine was quiet and I liked it that way. I'm still a bit down.

I haven't knit anything in at least 2 weeks. I tried to work on the socks I'm making for Chris and I think I got across 2 DPN's and put them down again.

There's kind of a back story to this. I have a friend who has a really bad problem with alcohol. He's a really good friend too and we all stand by his side all the time through thick and thin; until a few weeks ago when he was really really really drunk and went off on me in a restaurant.

He had been drinking all day long, then hooked up with two other friends of ours. They spent the day out at a few bars and had a few drinks (he drank probably twice as much as them and had already had plenty in him). By the time we met up with them at the 3rd bar, he was a mess. He was jumping around acting like a jackass (pardon my french) and one by one everyone at the table told him to settle down and stop acting like a fool. So at one point he started to act up again, I literally turned around to him and said "Carlos, stop." Not forcefully, not mean, just more like "c'mon man cut it out."

Then he snapped.

Chris was about to punch him out (and they're best friends) Gabe and Mari just said "ok time to go." And they ended up taking him back to their home to keep an eye on him and make sure he wasn't going to go out and start anything on his own.

It's sad when you have to be babysat and you're almost 40.

So what does this have to do with knitting?

I was actually half ways done with a scarf I had started for him as a belated Christmas gift. I was really excited to make it for him because usually when he's sober he's a sweetheart and we're "pin nerds" at Disneyland together. He buys the special release pins for me as gifts (totally unexpected and I don't ask for them either).

I think part of the reason he went off on me is that I look similar to his ex-girlfriend whom he recently broke up with (after dating for 6 years). I'm not saying we're twins but we both have much the same mannerisms, hair color, glasses, height, size, etc. Part of the reason they broke up was because he'd get drunk and call her at 4am and tear her a new one, completely unprovoked.

So the day after all this happened our friends told him what happened and he didn't remember any of it (of course). He's been trying to apologize to me, but I'm not sure I want to accept it right at the moment.

Until he gets help, I don't think I can forgive him. He's already had to deal with a DUI and did AA to keep himself out of jail and facing more fines, but he didn't take it seriously and just fell back into old habits.

I pray for him and I know one day he'll really learn. I just can't seem to pick up any of my projects at the moment because of all this.

Sorry to be so down and so personal. It's just the current happenings in the Days of My Life (LOL!)
